Villahermosa City Surrounded by History and Ecology
Villahermosa is the capital of the State of Tabasco, one of Mexico’s 35 Major Cities with over one million inhabitants. The state of Tabasco is located on the south end of the Gulf of Mexico and has mainly low land, with over 40% of Tabasco surface covered by water. Villahermosa is a vibrating City with pride of its heritage and a place full of traditions. Villahermosa is the center of an area very rich in Archeological and Historical values, in addition to astonishing activities that explain our existence and our very important relation to Nature. Tabasco has 2 of the major rivers in Mexico, the Usumacinta and the Grijalva that pore down huge amounts of Water from The Southern Sierra Mountains of Mexico and Guatemala in to the Gulf of Mexico. The state is an important producer of Chocolate seeds, Live Stock, Bananas, Petroleum and has manufacturing plants of regional importance. Villahermosa is a busy city with all sorts of Hotels and very especially, large International World type Business and Convention type facilities such as Fiesta Americana, Hyatt and Hilton among others. Tourism is also an important and growing activity. Villahermosa is the Mid Point between Mexico City and The Riviera Maya on the Yucatan Peninsula. Villahermosa Airport receives 260 flights a week and is so relatively accessible and also has modern highways that connect to many other regions of the country with Touristic attractions, such as Campeche, Chiapas, Merida, Veracruz or the Highlands with Puebla, Mexico City and more
Villahermosa although not a Resort Beach Destination, is chosen by select travelers that will appreciate an area very rich in Archeological and Historical values, in addition to astonishing activities that explain our existence and our very important relation to Nature. Ecological Tourism is so very appreciative of the Rain Forest, the enormous rivers, lagoons and swamp areas. Adventure sports are also available and profusely done by visitors. But Villahermosa is much more, it is a vibrating City with pride of its heritage and a place full of traditions. The Sate of Tabasco was partially isolated to the rest of the Country before the midst of the 1950’s. So Tabasco enhanced its own culture, music and regional gastronomy.
Outside of Villahermosa, there are many activities and places to visit on your own or with professionally organized tours. The sate is divided in four regions the Mountains, The Chocolate Area, The Rivers and The swamps. Nevertheless, the biggest Tourist attraction using the Airport of Villahermosa is Palenque only 2 hours south of Villahermosa. It is one of the Pre-classic largest Maya Archeological sites.
From Huimanguillo at the foot of the Mountains, you will find a Nature preservation program Agua y Selva, with cascading rivers, exotic trees, jungle, bird species a real adventure in a wonderful Ecologic setting. Nearby, Rivers Amatan & Oxolotan, provide Sulphur water bathing, cascades, caves and nice thick foliage. In the Chocolate area go to the Archeological Area of Comalcalco, the ethnic town of Nacajuca and the Coco Nut growing beach area of Paraiso. The River Area will be around Macuspana where many communities are only reached by boat and where supply merchants also use the rivers to deliver their goods.
